NC Film

NC Film

Here are a couple projects I have helped NC Film with all produced at LGA.   This is a fun sizzle reel featuring NC locations in film, Chris Waldorf edited and did an amazing job. A t-shirt package we developed where the t-shirt was shrunk wrapped to the shape of a film reel.                           And an alternate T-shirt that we presented, but didn’t produce.

North Carolina – 2013

North Carolina – 2013

I have waited to post this for a long time. This is a portion of the work LGA has produced for the Division of NC Tourism. We wanted travelers to connect more deeply with NC and show some of those that have not only come here, but have decided to stay. William Huber shot these images and did an amazing job. Jennifer Jones and Margaret Bond are the writers and Joe Tolley and I art directed. Steve Dunkley is the Executive Creative Director. This is just a small part of…

Recovering the Classics

Recovering the Classics

This was a fun opportunity to work with the Creative Action Network. If you aren’t familiar, CAN takes on different creative initiatives that range from political statements to pro bono causes. Their latest is to take on the average book covers that exist in the world of public domain. A lot of these classics are sadly lost to new readers because of the lack of attention put into their covers. So CAN paired with Harvard Press to challenge designers to redesign their favorite book covers. Here are three that I designed…

Novant and MJ

Novant and MJ

Well I have to be honest, it doesn’t get much better than this. LGA developed 2 commercials and a print campaign featuring the greatest basketball player of all time. This is the first spot, once the rest of the work airs, I will post. JJ and I developed these concepts and worked with literally hundreds of people to get this all produced. Hope you like. This is the most recent commercial featuring Michael Jordan that has been released. Pretty awesome opportunity to get to work with such an icon….

ATD-Brand 2013

ATD-Brand 2013

This is the newest series of ads LGA produced for ATD. The ads use visual metaphors to show speed, selection and special programs for their customers. Erik Almas shot and Hacjob worked on the CGI.   Here are some of the steps in this concept. Usually we start with a lot of thumbs for an idea. Then we narrow down and try to figure out how to approach and how to produce that concept. Below is the initial thumbnail sketch and to the right is a revised illustration that we…

MAKING TRACKS

MAKING TRACKS

I get a chance to work on this project every year with my client ATD. Each year I try to take a fresh approach with it. This year we wanted to show how ATD has become a huge force from the East Coast to the West and that their service and delivery is beyond compare. The cover was developed with HacJob out of Wisconsin using CGI and retouching. They also produced a handful of illustrations throughout the magazine. 2011 Here’s a little bit of the process involved…

Sam Mills mural

Sam Mills mural

This is a project the Panthers asked LGA to work on for their newly renovated weight room. This graphic is dedicated to Sam Mills memory. Sam Mills was an inspirational player and coach for the Panthers. He inspired the “Keep Pounding” Charity that helps raise money for Cancer research. This graphic helps tell his story and each year the Panthers will autograph the poster that is mounted on the right. It will be auctioned off and proceeds will go to CMC to help with Cancer patients. The wall graphic is…

Charlotte 49ers Campaign

Charlotte 49ers Campaign

UNC Charlotte’s Athletic Department (Judy Rose and Mike Hummer) came to LGA to help build some awareness for UNC Charlotte’s bid for a football team. Initially they had 5000 names that had been collected to show interest. The next task  was to sale 5000 49ers Seat Licenses (FSLs) in the worst economy. First we had to build awareness of the effort. We started with a rallying cry – It’s A Rush. We developed a video, website and a brochure as part of Phase 1. Phase 2 looked outward more to…

Charlotte ADDY Awards

Charlotte ADDY Awards

This year LGA was asked to work with AAF Charlotte to help promote the local annual ADDY show. I worked with Margaret Bond and came up with the creative for the show. We also worked with the AAF to determine how and where the show would be. We toured a lot of the venues in Charlotte and found none nicer and more beautiful that the new Mint Museum Uptown. This helped add to our concept. We think that Art Directors and Copywriters have to go through a lot to create…

ATD Identity

ATD Identity

American Tire Distributors decided it was time to renew there logo and identity. They are a long-time client of LGA and I have worked with them for years, so I was excited to get a chance to develop something that was fresh and a bit more modern. We also got a chance to redesign their trucks an integral part of their identity that is probably the most visible. Below is a small piece of the work I designed or art directed. The New mark. A few sketches from the process….

Fight Night Design – 2009-2011

Fight Night Design – 2009-2011

Here’s this year’s design for Fight Night for Kids. It’s a great event that benefits children charities around Charlotte. This year they returned to more traditional boxing for the event. So the designs took a more nostalgic and fun approach reminiscent of the old boxing posters of yesteryear. ACC Championship

ACC Championship

This past December was the first year Charlotte hosted the ACC Football Championship. Luquire George Andrews was charged with making it a success and selling out the stadium. It was the first year in recent history the stadium was completely sold out and even the cold weather didn’t hold back the true ACC Fans. The weekend comprised of concerts and FanFest on Friday and the Championship game on Saturday. The whole city was adorned from head to toe and here are some of the posters and outdoor signage that went…

Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer has meant a lot to Quail Hollow Club over the years. He helped bring 3 different tournaments to Quail Hollow and helped design the course in the beginning. His direction helped build the course into what it is today. This is an ad that we produced at LGA in behalf of Quail Hollow Club to say Thank you. It ran in Arnold Palmer’s magazine “Kingdom.” Gold Addy winner Silver Addy: District 3 Regionals   Here was an alternate that showed the course in the late 70s at the…

Sign of the Times

Sign of the Times

This series is a collection of Americana that I have been working on over the last few years. Since I have started, about half of these places no longer exist. Maybe not today, maybe not next year – but in a couple years these type of images just won’t exist, except as memories. Hope you like. Click to enlarge. (Colors will be more vibrant in Safari)

Black and White

Black and White

A collection of work from my college years. All the work here are Silver Gelatin prints. Figurines | This image was shot for a publication at East Carolina University. A group of us went to Richmond to shoot as much as we could to illustrate short stories that were being published. Figurines was one of my favorites from that series. The Barn | This image was shot with a medium format (2.25×2.25) film camera. I used a tri-pod and basically left the aperture open and flashed with another 35mm camera in order…
